Needles for hand sewing

Size from 1 to 12: the higher the number, the finer the needle. It is recommended to choose a finer needle with thinner fabrics.

The eye of the needle represents the hole through which the thread is passed.

The eye and tip change for each type of needle:

  • Long needles: pointed common sewing needle with round eye
  • Embroidery needles: Longer, pointed needle with a long eye
  • Tapestry needles: Wide, pointless eye
  • Darning needles: Longer needle, long and wide eye
  • Beading Needles: Very fine needle; very narrow eye
  • Easy threading needles: The eye is open to pass the thread through the top
  • Leather needles: The tip is triangular and sharp
  • Quilting needles: Shorter and thinner, round eye and pointed needle
  • Millinery needles: very long needles with small eyes
